While the latest beta of the Google app introduced some nice updates to the weather widgets, it also hampered At a Glance in the Pixel Launcher. Namely, it launches the original Google Weather experience instead of the redesign.
Update 20/11: This problem is back with version 12.45 beta. Fortunately, Android 12 widgets are not impacted and tapping launches the new Weather experience.
Update 11/4: Version 12.43, currently in beta, fixes this problem.
29/10 original: The weather returned to At a Glance early last week for Android 12 users after a long absence that spanned the duration of Beta 5. Appearing on your Always-On Display, Lockdown, and home screen, pressing it opens the Weather application.
As part of the Google app, this weather overhaul launched in early September and eventually adopted a hardware-themed UI. A material that you redesign is needed in no time, but it’s a start. Various elements are rounded and the last tab indicators are tapped, while the navigation drawer gives way to an avatar menu.
With the Google app 12.42, currently in beta, all of that is gone. Tap the condition / temperature in the upper left corner to open the previous weather experience which has been around for years and is quite outdated. We are experiencing this issue on Pixel phones running Android 12. It does not appear to have an impact on Android 11.
Fortunately, the updated weather widgets launch the new app without a hitch, and the home screen shortcut still works. We hope this bug will not appear in the stable version of the Google app.
